Workplace Wardrobe Inspired by Giovanna Battaglia
We know your mom will probably say the best workplace attire is a pantsuit (if it's perfectly tailored and high-waist tuxedo style, she might be on to something), but we have a different opinion. Work wardrobes that fit your style personality are not impossible to achieve. We dissected, Giovanna Battaglia's street style looks and created a few tips that can take your workplace wardrobe to the next level.
Determine Your Workplace Style:
Understanding the environment of your workplace is key. If your workplace is very formal, then you may want to stick to blazers and suits. If you're working in a more relaxed environment, you may be able to get away with dressing up jeans. Working in a formal environment doesn't have to mean boring, you'll just have to place a little extra attention on clothing cuts and color palettes. Build A Capsule Wardrobe:
Focus on having key pieces like longline coats, white button downs, black pencil skirts and nude pumps. From there, using your workplace environment begin to add different pieces. Relaxed environment may include relaxed tunics, chic detailed jackets, or standout shoes. Formal environment may include blazers and menswear-inspired trousers. Using a variety of stylish accessories and bold handbags can add individuality to any workplace wardrobe without being overwhelming.
Dress the Part:
Whether you're trying to land a new job or move up in your current company, dressing the part is a necessity. If you're trying to nail an interview do your research on the company. For a standard corporate job, we recommend sticking to black or navy blue in a suit style. (We know black and navy blue sounds boring, but it's temporary!) For a creative job, try something that shows off your personality - incorporate prints or vibrant colors. If you're looking to get a promotion dress as if you already have it. Try wearing more tailored pieces and incorporate small hints of bold colors that command authority.
Trends meet Everyday Life:
Trying out new trends doesn't always have to wait until after work. Subtly adding little hints of the latest fashion can happen at work. For the current spring trends, try using floral prints that use softer pastel colors or patterns. Considering wearing blouses that have lace trimming, instead of completely made of lace. Incorporate cute cropped or fitted jackets that don't weigh down your look.
Have Fun with It!
These are the clothes that you'll spend 90% of your time wearing, find things that work for you. Look for clothes that are just as comfortable as they are chic. Don't bother chasing the latest trend if you know it's something that you won't be able to spend hours wearing. Most of all, don't over think it! Putting too much thought into any outfit choice removes the fun factor. Our outfits are a reflection of us, wear something that makes you feel amazing and leave it at that.
