The Dos and Don'ts of Vehicle Branding

Vehicle branding can be a great part of your marketing strategy, but done wrong, and it can quickly look tacky. Whether you’re branding a company car, or wrapping a fleet of company vehicles, you need to get vehicle branding right.

Any business with company cars or vehicles knows that the fleet needs to be taken care of well, from getting regular services done to using the right fuel (check it out here to learn more). Vehicle branding is a different thing and needs to be taken just as seriously.

Don’t overload your vehicles with graphics and information. Do keep it simple.

Think about what the most important information is. This ought to be your contact information, business name, and basics of what you do. Don’t try to list every service that you offer on the vehicle, with too many graphics.

Remember that you are branding a vehicle, not a stationary object. Your audience doesn’t have very long to take in the information, so keep it clear and concise. The vehicle wrap should be consistent with your branding, using the same logos, colors, and fonts. This will help people to recognize your brand and company. Your name, phone number, and website should be easy to find and easy to read.

Don’t use an overly flowery font. Do use a font that can read from a distance.

When you’re working with the sign printing company, make sure you choose a font that is easy to read from afar. Your first instinct might be to choose a unique font that stands out, but your potential customers need to be able to read it, so a traditional font is better.

Don’t bother with extras like QR codes. Nobody can scan that while you or they are driving.

Don’t just use branding on the sides of the vehicle. Do remember your vehicle is a three-dimensional object.

Remember that your vehicles will be viewed by the front, sides, and the back. Make sure that all the important information, like your phone number and websites, can be read from the sides and back of the vehicle.

Remember that all vehicles are different. When you design your wrap or graphics, be sure to design for the vehicle that you’re going to advertise on. Parts of the vehicle, like the bumpers, windows, or rails, might not be allowed to be covered in some states. Check what is possible and legal first.

Don’t use poor quality photos. Do use professional photography.

If you decide to use photos as part of the branding on your vehicle, make sure you use professionally photographed images. Even if your vehicle is a small car, any images that you use to brand the car will need to be enlarged a lot in order to be properly seen. An image on a company vehicle that is grainy and fuzzy will look unprofessional. Your vehicle’s branding should reflect the quality of the work that you offer. If you’re going to invest in a vehicle wrap, invest in photography too.
